Dear Aspiring Author,
If you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking about writing your first book. As an author myself, I know how it feels to be in your shoes right now. The excitement, the doubts, the constant questions—it’s all part of the process. But here’s the truth: you’re not alone. I’ve walked this path, and I’m here to share the lessons and writing tips I’ve learned along the way to help you succeed.
Let’s get started!
Write for Yourself, Not for Others
When I first started writing my book The Secret Impacts: Your Life, Their Stories, I had so many questions running through my mind. Should I write it for the publisher, to meet their expectations? Should I tailor it for readers, hoping they’ll connect with the story? Because of these doubts, I spent so much time in trial and error, with no proper guidance.
But over time, after much frustration, I realized the truth: My work should satisfy me first.
And I want to share the same with you: If you’re not satisfied with what you’re creating, it will show in your work. The process isn’t about satisfying others—it’s about satisfying your own heart and soul first. Only then will you be able to truly connect with your readers.
Trust the Process, Be Bold, and Embrace Change
Writing a book isn’t just about finishing a manuscript—it’s about embracing the entire journey. Every step, whether it’s a triumph or a setback, is part of what shapes you as a writer. There will be moments when things don’t go as planned. You might doubt yourself or feel like giving up, but that’s normal. Don’t let the setbacks discourage you. Don’t hesitate to make changes, discard what doesn’t work, and trust your instincts.
When I was halfway through my book, I was expecting a publishing date. Yet, I found myself facing an incredibly difficult decision: I realized that the book wasn’t fully satisfying me, and it wasn’t my best work. Yes, it was painful, but that’s when the real magic happened. I made the bold decision to scrap everything and start from scratch. I spent months on something that ultimately didn’t feel right, but in the end, the process paid off.
You might also face moments like these when you’re not satisfied with what you’ve done, but don’t let that stop you. Don’t be afraid to make changes, throw out what’s not working, and start over. Keep pushing forward. You’ll be glad you did.
Finally, if you hit a wall, don’t hesitate to knock it down. You have that power.
You’re creating something important, something that will leave a lasting impact. Trust the process, trust yourself, and keep moving forward. Best of luck on your writing journey. You are making a difference with your words, and the world is waiting to hear your story.
